Curious about Transition (s): Good and Also Good for Us!

Definition of Transition: Passage from one place or state to another; charge; as, the transition of the weather from hot to cold. A passing from one subject to another. Change from one form to another.

Ultimately, your state of mind determines your circumstances. To realize the outcomes you want, it is critical to recognize and experience the transition from our present thoughts, habits, and actions to new thoughts, habits, and actions.” - Darren L. Johnson, American author

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.” - Isaac Asimov, American Scientist
You may have wondered where I’ve been. Well, I have been working on and experiencing the “troublesome” transition from using my eleven year old computer to my brand new computer. WOW! The hours and hours expended were incredible.

I had been getting stomach-ache-inducing messages warning me that my “Disk Space Is Low.” I was frantically deleting unneeded programs, transferring large folders and files to my external hard drive, and worrying.

Two of my wonderful children came to the rescue. They sent me a new computer for my birthday. It was loaded with up-to-date programs, lots of space, and new peripherals. However, if you are familiar with computers, you may know the work involved with a transition described above by Darren L. Johnson.

I spent at least seven hours on the phone with technology experts, more hours reading and trying “Help” topics, and even more hours grappling with updates and transferal of information from the old to the new. Anyway, I am back in business and still getting used to the new, but really love my new setup.

Thus, I thought it would fun to check out and share transition quotations. So, here goes:

·         “The interval between the decay of the old and the formation and establishment of the new constitutes a period of transition which must always necessarily be one of uncertainty, confusion, error, and wild and fierce fanaticism.”- John C. Calhoun, American statesman
·         “The transition was difficult. It's hard to stop something that you've enjoyed and that has been very rewarding.” - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, American athlete
·         “History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” – Martin Luther King, Jr., American leader
·         “Community colleges play an important role in helping people transition between careers by providing the retooling they need to take on a new career.” - Barack Obama, American President
·         “The interval between the decay of the old and the formation and establishment of the new constitutes a period of transition which must always necessarily be one of uncertainty, confusion, error, and wild and fierce fanaticism.”- John C. Calhoun, American statesman
·         “My first job in all honesty is going to continue to be mom-in-chief. Making sure that in this transition, which will be even more of a transition for the girls... that they are settled and that they know they will continue to be the center of our universe.” - Michelle Obama, American first lady
·         “The ambiguities of language, both in terms of vocabulary and syntax, are fascinating: how important connotation is, what is lost and what is gained in the linguistic transition.” – Marilyn Hacker, American poet

In addition, two short quotations that say a lot:

“We are the transition from one education to the other.” - Alfred Rosenberg, German soldier

“Life is one big transition.” - Willie Stargell, American athlete

What life changing transitions have you experienced?  I know that I learned a huge amount about persistence – and my new computer, too!
